Gracie + Nick | Southern Elegance

Gracie and Nick’s wedding – at the beautiful Vestavia Country Club – was a blend of modern and romantic. Their attire was classic with a modern twist: the bridesmaids wore one-shouldered satin dresses and the guys were all in tuxes. They went for pink, white, and green florals, which brought a beautiful and organic feel to their venue. When they were looking for a wedding photographer, they reached out to me because they wanted documentary style wedding photography to celebrate their day.

Spending time with Gracie as she got ready was such a fun and relaxed part of the morning. One of the things I love about documentary style wedding photography is the freedom to capture these unposed moments – the anticipation, the nerves, the excitement. And, of course, the kicker moments like Nick’s reaction as he watched Gracie walk down the aisle.

They had a 30-person wedding party which brought so much fun energy to their celebration, energy only stoked by their epic band, which had everyone dancing all night long. The silky champagne of the bridesmaid dresses over the LED lights of their light-up shoes on the dance floor. Gracie’s veiled white cowboy hat. The joyful, hectic energy of Nick crowd surfing with his gleeful groomsmen underneath the gleaming chandelier. These are the kind of details that drew me into this style of wedding photography, and it’s this authenticity and joy that I love to capture.

If you’re considering documentary style wedding photography for your own wedding, I encourage you to scroll through my portfolio for more examples of what that can look like. Be sure to check out this Carillon Beach wedding, too!
